Human Trafficking…

There are more slaves on the planet today then there were ever in the history of the world. They estimate that 2.4 million people are being trafficked at any one time and 80% of those are being exploited sexually. Human trafficking has taken our world and soon it will be the most profitable criminal enterprise in the world jumping ahead of drugs. What is human trafficking? The United Nations defines it as, “as the recruitment, transportation, transfer, harboring or receipt of persons, by means of the threat or use of force or other forms of coercion, of abduction, of fraud, of deception, of the abuse of power or of a position of vulnerability or of the giving or receiving of payments or benefits to achieve the consent of a person having control over another person, for the purpose of exploitation. Exploitation shall include, at a minimum, the exploitation of the prostitution of others or other forms of sexual exploitation…

It’s easy to think that this only happens in third world countries but the ugly truth is it’s happening here in America. In your hometown. With over 100,000 people being trafficked in our country it’s not just somebody else’s problem but it’s a issue we almost fight together. The best place to start our fight for a future FREE from slavery is in our schools. With 65% of those being trafficked being children between the ages of 11-17 (and sometimes even younger) its in our best interest to educate and encourage our children to start “Say Something” when they see the signs.
